The purpose of this job is to maximise the gross margin on the company’s building contracts by supporting the Project Surveyor in obtaining best prices for sub-contracts, accurately assessing costs during the delivery of the contract, and justifying and claiming all contractual payments due to the company by the client. 

The vacancy would suit a semi-qualified/qualified surveyor. The candidate must have a minimum of two years practical surveying experience working for a similar sized company. The job-holder will be based at GM Development’s offices near Wimbledon, but will need to visit sites, mostly located in South West London postcodes but also in adjacent Home Counties.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and despatch tender packages to sub-contractors (with clerical support)
  • Set up job files and all necessary records (with clerical support, and in conjunction with Accounts Department)
  • Collate sub-contractor tenders and, in consultation with the Contracts Manager, award sub-contracts
  • Check and approve sub-contractors’ claims for payment (in conjunction with the Senior Project Surveyor)
  • Liaise with sub-contractors to resolve queries
  • Assess and cost variations to contract
  • Update and maintain records
  • Assist with contract valuations
  • Assist with monthly cost/value reconciliations
  • Submit and agree final accounts (in conjunction with the Senior Project Surveyor).

We are currently looking for Senior Site Managers. The purpose of this job is to manage the day-to-day operations on the company’s building sites so that the contract is completed safely, on time and to the required standard, whilst complying with all relevant legislation and accepted industry best practice. 

The Site Manager reports to the Contracts Manager and will carry out other duties as instructed by the Contracts Manager, consistent with their knowledge, skills and job purpose. The job-holder may be required to undertake training to ensure that their skills and qualifications are up-to-date and in line with the company’s requirements.
