Cosmic House, W11
We were delighted to be chosen to be the contractor to turn Lansdowne Walk into a museum and archive for Charles Jencks. The Grade I listed building is arguably one of the most important examples of post-modern design in the world and will be open by appointment (thecosmichouse.com). The project had to be undertaken with the utmost sensitivity and included lowering the garage floor to be level with the rest of the lower ground floor, bringing both the electrical and mechanical installations up to current regulations and completely refurbishing the whole house.
The lower ground floor was transformed it an exhibition space with hand painted floors (now protected with a resin covering) and contains three “garden rooms”. Sadly Charles Jencks - famous globally as an architect, architectural historian, critic, writer and garden designer, as well as co-founder of Maggie’s Cancer Centres - died at the age of 80 a few months before it’s completion.
